One of the main events of the forum was the culminating activity where each high school publication was tasked to choose between creating an interactive layout, a TV broadcasting report, or a broadsheet layout. The participants were given three real-life scenarios including a re-electionist running for a position despite already having financial scandals in the past, a citizen who was affected by said financial scandal, and lastly, an influencer filing for candidacy in spite of not meeting the proper age requirements and lack of knowledge about future projects. Each publication had 30 minutes to interview all of the actors and obtain the needed information to accomplish their activity. Afterward, all outputs were presented on stage and evaluated by The Guidon’s executive board based on the given criteria.
Point One 2025: Bridging the Gap concluded with a room full of creative exchange of ideas and a greater appreciation for the role that journalism plays in shaping the minds of the public to make informed decisions during the election. Through these discussions and activities, each participant was able to gain valuable knowledge and skills in bridging gaps and ensuring that voters are provided with truth, empowering all of them to exercise their right to vote wisely.
Last January 18, Members of the SHSQC VOICES had the opportunity to be a part of ‘Point One 2025: Bridging the Gap’ an event organized by Ateneo de Manila University’s official publication, The Guidon. Held at the university’s Escaler Hall, the event gathered various high school publications to be participants to spread awareness about the importance of journalism during the election periods.
The event brought together experts in the field of journalism to talk about their own perspectives and experiences during their careers. The session was led by Danilo Araña Arao, an associate professor of the Department of Journalism at the University of the Philippines, who discussed the importance of Digital media during elections and how media should assist the public

in making informed decisions as they vote for their upcoming leaders.

The second speaker, Brian Basa, a current reporter on TV5 exhibited his insights on the digital age and topics involving how currently relevant platforms such as social media apps should be used to disseminate information to be able to reach a wider audience in today’s generation.

Former GMA Reporter and current High School teacher at MGC New Life Christian Academy Richelle Sy-Kho, the last speaker of the day, emphasized various fact-checking strategies that need to be taken note of as well as the different methods to keep in mind when combating misinformation and disinformation in writing.
